Stars Defeat Rebels to Win PPSL Community Shield

JUNIOR LONE STAR FC 3-1 UPPER DARBY FC

PPSL Community Shield | Monsignor Bonner High School Stadium | Scorers: V. Slueue 4’ , Blamassi 65′ , Ndiaye 80′ / Marshall 75′

Vlandy Slueue along with debutants Bamba Blamassi and Aboubackry Ndiaye were all on target as the Stars defeated the Rebels 3-1 to win the inaugural Philadelphia Premier Soccer League Community Shield.

Vlandy Slueue opened the scoring against Upper Darby FC with an excellent goal in the 4th minute after Anthony Allison dribbled past two defenders to lay the ball in the path of the onrushing Slueue.

After the early goal, it was an end-to-end stuff but the Stars held on to their 1-0 lead going into half-time.

After the break, the technical staff brought in the two debutants Bamba Blamassi (Ivory Coast) and Aboubackry Ndiaye (Senegal) who were recently granted permission by the Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association and the league to compete in the match.

Blamassi came in for Molley Karpeh in the 46th minute and it didn’t take too long for him to register his first goal on his official debut for the club. Vlandy Slueue was the provider as his vision to release a through pass to Blamassi saw the Ivorian with ample time to put the ball at the back of the net in the 65th minute.

The tempo of the match increased after that as the Rebels looked to get back into the game and their pressure paid off in the 75th minute when Paul Marshall broke an offside trap to score a simple tap-in.

The Stars quickly regained control of the game when another debutant Aboubackry Ndiaye, on for Deron Joe, opened his account for the club with a superb goal in the 80th minute off an assist from Bill Wallekendeh to make the score line 3-1.

There will certainly be bigger challenges to come this season with the Stars competing in seven competitions, but lifting the first trophy of the 2017 season is a great start.
