Stars Come from Behind to Defeat FC Motown 3-1

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (May 11, 2011) – Anthony Allison scored a first half brace while Bill Walleekendeh was also on target in the second half as the Stars came from behind to defeat FC Motown 3-1 in the NPSL season opener on Saturday night at Drew University Stadium.

Coming off a controversial defeat at the hands of Reading United AC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup midweek, the Stars were determined to kick-start their 2019 NPSL campaign with a win but saw themselves one goal down early in the game with just two minutes on the clock with Sidney Rivera pulling the host ahead off an assist from Christopher Katona.

The Stars equalized in the 15th minute through Anthony Allison who received a perfect through pass from Abdullah Donzo before dispatching the ball at the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

The Stars pulled ahead nine minutes later when Anthony Allison intercepted a back-pass from a Motown defender to put the ball at the back of the net to complete his brace and a 2-1 scoreline before the break.

After the break, Motown mounted serious pressure but goalkeeper Vinny Tasca was up to the tasks making series of one-on-one saves to keep the score at 2-1 for the Stars.

The Stars needed an assurance goal and they got it in the 79th minute when Bill Walleekendeh weaved his way between three Motown defenders before chipping the ball over the goalie in the upper 90 of the net to put the Stars ahead 3-1.

Motown tried to pull one back in the last 10 minutes, but they were met with a resolute back-line of Mohammed Mayah, Elliott Johnson, Kouassi N’Guessan and Abdullah Donzo to ensure a memorable 3-1 victory for the Stars.

Philadelphia Lone Star FC’s next match is the home opener on Saturday, May 18 at 6 p.m. against Atlantic City FC who defeated West Chester United 4-1 earlier today. Tickets cost only $5 and are available online at PhiladelphiaLoneStarFC.com/tickets. Kids under 12 enter free.
