First Team Overpowers Under 23s in PPSL Opener

JUNIOR LONE STAR FC 3-1 JUNIOR LONE STAR U23

PPSL Match Day 1 | McCreesh Playground Soccer Stadium | Scorers: Chelleh 11′, A Sheriff 30′ , Walleekendeh 33′ / S Dempster 38′

Both of Junior Lone Star FC teams went head-to-head in the 2017 Philadelphia Premier Soccer League opener with the First Team securing a 3-1 win over the Under-23s. Josh Chelleh, Amadou Sheriff, and Bill Walleekendeh were all on target for the First Team while Siafa Dempster scored for the Under-23s.

The First Team proved too much to handle for the U23s as three goals in the first 30 minutes saw the senior side crushing their U23 counterparts 3-1 in league action at the McCreesh Playground Soccer Field.

On a very cloudy evening, the First Team took the lead in 11th minute via Josh Chelleh before adding another through midfielder Amadou Sheriff in the 30th minute. Three minutes later, the First Team went ahead 3-0 when a beautiful curving shot from Vlandy Slueue hit the goal posts but forward Bill Walleekendeh was there to hit the ball at the back of the net to score his first goal of the season.

Shocked by those three quick goals, the Under 23 coaches Bobby Ali and James Karnga made a quick change, bringing in former U19 top scorer Siafa Dempster in place of the ineffective Edward Slueue and that substitution paid off right away as Siafa Dempster curled in a beautiful shot in the upper right corner of the net to reduce the score line to 3-1 in the 38th minute.

After the recess, the U23s made series of changes and they had multiple chances to score but First Team goalie Ibrahim Toure was impressive in goal making series of saves to keep the score at 3-1 and a subsequent victory for the First Team.

With that win, the Stars extended their winning streak to 11 competitive matches from October 22, 2016 to present. The Stars will now prepare for the USASA Region I Amateur Cup Quarter-Finals match against the MDCVA State Champions ASF Select which is scheduled for Sunday, April 9th at 5:00 PM at the Monsignor Bonner High School Stadium in Drexel Hill, PA.
