Allison’s Brace Sends the Stars to the EPSA Amateur Cup Final

WARMINSTER, Pa. – Anthony Allison scored on either side of extra time to lead Philadelphia Lone Star FC to a 2-0 win over Vereinigung Erzgebirge Majors in the Eastern Pennsylvania State Amateur Cup Semifinals on Sunday afternoon at the William Tennent High School Stadium.

Allison’s brace propelled the Stars to their second EPSA Amateur Cup Final in three years, where they will battle fierce local rivals West Chester United for the sixth time in 2018.

Under an overcast and rainy Sunday afternoon, it was VE Majors who started the match brightly, missing four clear chances to go ahead in the first half but the Stars goalkeeper Prince Monyan pulled few saves the keep the score goalless at half-time.

After a slow start, the Stars worked themselves back into the game in the second half missing few chances of their own, but both teams couldn’t find the back of the net in regular time.

It wasn’t until the end of the first half of extra time that the Stars struck when Anthony Allison ran onto Kanibah Kutu-Akoi‘s slick pass from the right wing and fired a left-footed powerful shot into the bottom-left corner of the net for his third goal of the 2018/19 season.

The home side came blazing with all guns in the second half of extra time searching for the equalizer but goalkeeper Prince Monyan was up to the tasks making couple of saves.

With VE Majors pushing more men up for the equalizer, the Stars were able to put the game to bed in the 119th minute off a counter-attack after Nyakeh Kamara sent Allison through on goal where he dribbled past the goalkeeper before slotting the ball at the back of the net for the 2-0 win.

With the win, the Stars advanced to the EPSA Amateur Cup Final where they will battle West Chester United on Sunday, December 16th at 2:00 PM at a venue still to be determined. The Stars have met United five times already in 2018 (three times in the NPSL and two times in the NESL) with the Stars winning twice, United once, and two draws in NPSL and NESL playoffs (United won both in penalties).
